Martin Flemming

Martin Flemming, born in 1982, lives and works in Frankfurt/Germany. Studied under Tobias Rehberger at Städelschule in Frankfurt. In 2006 he won the Szpilman Award for his work Wenn jeder denkt, es ist für alle, dann füttert niemand die Fische.
His sculptures are based on minimal interventions, which refer to a further, notional level. Martin wants his spectators to think about the feelings or reactions his sculptures evoke, and not about the concrete object itself. In other words, the artist intends a changing of the object character i.e. the concrete object with its outlines and apparently shown dimensions to the thought evoked by the observed piece of art. On closer examination, the obvious is reversed, dissolved and opens a new point of view.
